When Roland Dean Olson moved to Irvine from Tustin in search of a larger home to accommodate his growing family in December 1969, there was one condition he wouldn’t compromise: an excellent education for his four children.

Ken Kafton is the only employee who has been with IUSD for the entirety of its history, witnessing its growth and evolution.  In this article, Ken shares his story and some of the District's history starting in the early 1970s, before IUSD was even its own school district. 
During Stan Corey’s 14-year tenure, the District’s first superintendent established a foundation that has resulted in IUSD becoming one of California’s most successful school districts.  Five decades later, his vision still lives on.
