Mark Kim

Mark Kim, a senior at University High School. This is his first year as a member of ASB, serving as the Senior Class President and as a representative on the School Board. He is both excited and honored to have the opportunity to participate in school board meetings. Mark has been actively involved in the student council throughout his high school career and is a member of both the Korean club and Protro club at UNI. He is entering his third year on the men's varsity lacrosse team, hoping to secure a league title and a division three CIF championship. Outside of school, Mark works at SomiSomi and enjoys spending time with friends, listening to music, and playing basketball.

Gabriel Mutsvangwa, a Senior at Portola High School, was elected by his peers to serve as Portola's Student Representative; where he collaborates with his senior class on organizing school events, understand student opinions through Portola's PYAC, and embodies Portola's PRIDE in various committees. Following the creation and leadership of Portola’s BSU, Gabriel has developed a strong passion for student and youth advocacy, leading him to work closely with faculty to enhance student experiences both within and outside school through student-led videos and presentations. Gabriel is a member of Portola's Treblemakers, serving as the President and Co-Founder of the PBSU, and represents Portola as the Student Stakeholder in IUSD's Ethnic Studies Committee. He also collaborates with student-led organizations such as IUSDare to enhance student success. Gabriel, older brother to Jeremiah and an enthusiast of politics, mathematics, and French culture, also enjoys cooking, maintaining fitness, and is a dedicated Baltimore Ravens fan. Grateful for his place on the 2023-24 IUSD Student Board, he eagerly anticipates championing his community.

 

Shrinidhi Sriram /  Woodbridge HS

Shrinidhi Sriram, a Senior at Woodbridge High School, is honored to serve as the School Board Representative for the current school year. Having been a part of the ASB in her junior year, she is delighted to return to the role for her senior year. Within the school, Shrinidhi holds multiple leadership positions: she is the co-president of the South Asian Student Association, the co-captain of the Mock Trial team, and the Youth Action Team for the 2023-24 school year. Outside of school, Shrinidhi works as a Youth Outreach employee for the City of Irvine. Alongside these commitments, Shrinidhi is also a dedicated Bharathanatyam dancer, with thirteen years of experience in this Indian classical art form. She recently showcased her talents in her Arangetram, a solo dance performance spanning three hours, which took place in September 2022. In her spare time, Shrinidhi loves to watch sunsets, read novels, and spend quality time with her friends. She is humbled and deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve her community as her school’s liaison, and looks forward to an exciting school year!

Alexis Tran, a Senior at Irvine High School, carries several leadership roles, all demonstrating her passion for journalism, equality, and community service. As Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, she guides the paper's tone and direction, ensuring it remains a reliable and trusted source of information for the student body. Her dedication to diversity and inclusion manifests in her presidency of the Students for Gender and Racial Equality club, a testament to her advocacy for equal rights and representation on campus. Outside of school, Alexis extends her commitment to social justice through her involvement in the IUSD Ethnic Studies committee and Congresswoman Katie Porter’s Youth Advisory Board. Alexis's passion for storytelling also extends to her personal interests, as she administers an Instagram fan page dedicated to her favorite TV show, The Summer I Turned Pretty. The earnings from her fan page are channeled into women's health organizations, showcasing her generosity and commitment to societal issues. When she's not advocating for stories in El Vaquero or posting about the latest cast developments, Alexis finds solace in the pages of a good book or immersing herself in the intricate worlds of new fictional characters.

Emily Yokota  /  Northwood HS

Emily Yokota, a Sophomore at Northwood High School, was appointed as the Student Board Representative through an interview process. In addition to this role, she serves as the student representative at Northwood's School Site Council and PTSA meetings. This marks her first year on the ASB, and she is committed to giving a voice to students. Emily is involved with Northwood’s Dance and Theater programs, as well as the Speech and Debate club. Outside of school, Emily plays the piano and volunteers with NCL. In her leisure time, she takes pleasure in watching Marvel movies, baking, and spending quality time with friends and family.
