Sierra Vista Takes Top Honor as IUSD Teams Excel at 2026 State Science Olympiad

Sierra Vista Middle School’s Science Olympiad team earned the prestigious title of Southern California Science Olympiad Champions. This marks the fifth consecutive title for the team.

Sierra Vista's Science Olympiad Dominance

Sierra Vista’s team posted an impressive score of 58 points in the Middle School Division, beating out their competitors by over 100 points at the Championship Tournament held at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

“I am extremely proud of our students and our Charger Science Olympiad Community,” Coach Shaun Evola shared.  “The level of perseverance and diligence in working towards our goals was truly a communal effort.”

They have remained busy throughout the season by competing in various invitational tournaments throughout the country. Due to all their hard work and dedication, the team will be invited to compete in the Science Olympiad Nationals Competition, which will be held on May 23rd at USC.

The State Competition

University High School's team secured second place in the High School Division with 153 points out of 32 total competing teams. In several events of the competition, the team earned first place, contributing to their overall high ranking and score. Turtle Rock Elementary School, Jeffery Trail Middle School, Rancho San Joaquin Middle School, Northwood High School and Portola High School also competed in the State competition.

Science Olympiad is a scholastic competition where students compete in 23 events related to various scientific disciplines, including coding, earth and space science, chemistry, technology and engineering and more. Each year, more than 7,500 middle and high school teams from around the country compete in multiple levels of competition, such as regionals, states and nationals.
