Northwood High School’s Ashlynn Lynch Wins CIF-SS Girls Wrestling Championship – First in School History

Three young women stand on a podium, each holding a medal, celebrating a wrestling championship.

Ashlynn Lynch from Northwood High School (NHS) took home the CIF-SS Girls Individual Wrestling Championship title at the 2026 CIF-SS Girls Southern Division tournament.

Her road to victory included 5 rounds of fierce competition, which included beating the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 seeded wrestlers in the bracket. Lynch showcased her dominance throughout the tournament by winning the majority of the matches through Fall pins, which immediately ends the match when both of an opponent’s shoulders are held to the mat.

This championship title comes on the heels of a strong season, where Lynch won several impressive matches at various tournaments, including the Western Lady Pioneer Challenge and Pacific Coast League Finals. Her consistent performance, ability to control matches and finish matches with pins set her apart as one of the top competitors in the division.

“We are incredibly proud of Ashlynn for all that she’s accomplished,” said NHS Co-Athletics Director Sierra Wang. “Her work ethic, discipline and resilience, along with the skilled coaching from Coach Ennis and Coach Shantz, helped take home this historic CIF win.”

High school wrestling is an individual sport competed one-on-one in weight classes. Matches consist of three periods, and wrestlers score points through take downs, escapes, reversals and near falls, in addition to fall pins. In a tournament setting like CIF, wrestlers are required to advance through a bracket, meaning they have to win multiple rounds in a single day.

Join us in congratulating Ashlynn and the coaching staff on this incredible CIF win!
