Krista Elliott, school nurse at Oak Creek and Springbrook Elementary Schools, has been named the recipient of the Excellence in School Nursing Award for the Southern Section by the California School Nurse Organization (CSNO). This distinguished recognition highlights Krista’s outstanding contributions to student health, wellness and the school nursing profession. She is the first school nurse in IUSD history to receive this honor.

The Excellence in School Nursing Award presented by the CSNO is one of the organization’s highest honors. It recognizes school nurses who demonstrate exceptional practice, leadership, and a meaningful impact on student health and the broader school community.

Since joining IUSD in 2013, she has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that every student receives thoughtful, high-quality health support, helping create safe and nurturing learning environments where students can thrive.

Beyond her daily work on campus, Krista has played a pivotal role in strengthening IUSD’s school nursing program as a whole. She leads the district’s New School Nurse Orientation Program, mentoring and guiding new nurses as they begin their careers. Krista is also the original creator of the IUSD School Nurse Manual, an extensive and comprehensive resource that outlines protocols and best practices for school nurses across the district. This manual has become a cornerstone of IUSD’s nursing program, promoting consistency, clarity, and excellence in care at every school site.

“Krista Elliott is a shining example of the excellence we strive for in IUSD Health Services. Being the first IUSD school nurse to receive the CSNO Excellence in School Nursing Award is a tremendous honor and a testament to her dedication. Her leadership has been pivotal in supporting student health and creating nurturing learning environments,” commented Shadlie Kensrue, IUSD Director of Health Services.

Join us in congratulating Krista on this well-deserved recognition!
