Woodbridge High School’s (WHS) Academic Decathlon Team won the county championship, taking home their ninth win in ten years!
Decathlon Dominance
The Warriors secured first place by earning an impressive 46,949.3 points after competing against 564 students at this year’s competition. The team will now advance to the state competition in Santa Clara from March 19 to March 22.
The announcement of their win came during the February 6, 2026, awards ceremony at Orange Coast College, where medals were presented to the top teams and individual scholars. In the individual categories, Henry Robbins once again led the Honor division, earning the highest individual score overall with 9,310.8 points out of 10,000.
“This group was driven to capture championship No. 10 for Woodbridge,” said WHS Decathlon Head Coach Mike Nakaue. “They knew they had to work for it, and no one said it would be easy. The coaching staff is very proud of this team.”
Among the high scorers of the competition was University High School, taking third place overall with a score of 44,187.5.
About the Competition
This year’s Academic Decathlon brought together high schools across Orange County, all competing under the 2025-26 theme, “The Roaring Twenties.” The competition concluded January 31 in Costa Mesa with the Super Quiz Relay, a fast-paced team event that turned academic knowledge into a spirited, crowd-cheering finale.
Each competing team must have three “Honor” students (those with GPAs of 3.80 and above), along with three “Scholastic” students (GPAs of 3.20 to 3.79) and three “Varsity” students (GPAs of 3.199 and below). Participants are evaluated through written exams in 10 subject areas, prepared and impromptu speeches, interviews and the Super Quiz Relay.
Join us in congratulating and wishing WHS’s Academic Decathlon Team the best of luck at the state championship!
