Plaza Vista K-8 Celebrates Opening of New Music Building

Plaza Vista K-8 School Music Building Opening and Dedication

Plaza Vista K-8 School opened and dedicated its new music building as part of the District’s Measure E improvements.  Board Members Lauren Brooks and Cyril Yu, Superintendent Terry Walker, and District staff joined Plaza Vista Principal James Parker, Assistant Principal Rick Blazer, music instructors Mark Ghiassi and Casey Causey, along with Plaza Vista students to celebrate this important addition to the school.

Equipped with enhanced acoustics and a voice lift system, the features in the new music building enable both music instructors and students to better hear and refine the practicing of instruments.  This flexible learning space can also be reconfigured to support small and large group instruction.

Principal Parker said, “Music is a core class for Plaza Vista middle school students, in addition to our school-wide music education, starting in TK.  Having a dedicated music building is a game changer for our students and school.”

In addition to music classes the space will also be used for student performances, dances and other multipurpose uses.

Measure E, a locally controlled funding source, was passed by voters in June 2016 to provide funding for facilities improvements to 28 of the District’s 43 schools.  Bringing all schools up to a similar standard not only supports educational equity for all students but it protects the outstanding quality of education for which IUSD schools are known. Measure E projects are focused on facility and technology infrastructure modernization; upgrades to classrooms, science labs and high school theaters; the creation of collaborative learning spaces; the development of innovation labs; enhanced accessibility; and other upgrades to improve safety, comfort and the learning environment for students.
