During the last IUSD Board of Education Meeting of the 2020-21 school year, on Tuesday, May 25, Board Members Paul Bokota, Lauren Brooks, Ira Glasky, Sharon Wallin and Cyril Yu recognized certificated, classified and administrative employees, who will retire before or on June 30.
In all, 77 IUSD employees will retire this year, collectively representing more than 2,014 years of service. Eamonn O’Donovan, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, kicked off a virtual presentation honoring retirees. Each Board Member and Superintendent Walker praised the retirees for their contributions to students and the District, noting their lasting legacy. Additionally, classified employees were formally recognized during the meeting for Classified School Employees Appreciation Week, which was celebrated districtwide May 17-21. Board Members, Superintendent Walker, President of the California School Employees Association, Chapter 517 Janelle Cranch , and incoming Irvine Teachers Association President Sonia Kearney also gave special remarks honoring Teri Sorey, retiring English teacher at University High School and current Irvine Teachers Association President. All thanked Teri, who served in IUSD for 44 years, for her professionalism, dedication, care for her students and passion for teaching.
