Career Technical Education Month is focused on CTE programs that prepare students for high-wage and high-demand careers. In IUSD, middle and high school students have opportunities to take CTE college and career readiness courses that provide hands-on learning experiences that build teamwork, leadership, creativity and problem solving skills in a variety of industry sectors. While gaining industry specific skills, students also build the professional skills that transfer to successful careers in any industry and that can help students succeed in college or university programs.
CTE covers many different fields, including health care, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management, and many more, as described by the Association for Career and Technical Education’s What is CTE? Website and Sector Sheets. CTE encompasses many different types of education, from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities outside the classroom.
