Dear IUSD Community,
It is hard to believe that the winter break will be here in just two weeks and that we are preparing to usher in a New Year. Amidst the joy, celebrations and activities of this wonderful and busy season, it is also a time of reflection and gratitude for our partnership with the Irvine Unified School District community. On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff, talented students, engaged parents and guardians, and passionate community partners for your collaboration and support of our students and schools. Together, we are the “US” at the center of IUSD, working in partnership to provide our students with the highest quality educational experience we can envision.
While our students, families and staff will be taking some much-deserved time off during the break, we wanted to share some helpful information and resources with our community. In the December edition of IUSD Insights, you will find tips and resources for practicing self-care over the holidays, along with links to our Mental Health and Counseling webpages. Both sites provide mental health and wellness resources and links to community services, including Care Solace, a free and confidential service that connects families to outside mental health services if needed. There is also information about the importance of staying connected with family and friends, links to community activities and more.
Please also see our article about e-vehicle (e-bike, e-scooters and e-skateboards) safety and considerations. This information is helpful for students and families who already have e-vehicles or if you are planning on purchasing them as gifts over the holidays. As a reminder, middle and high school students riding e-vehicles to school must follow their school’s registration process. Contact your student's school administration office for more information.
We have also provided information about IUSD's new organics recycling program, our ongoing commitment to educational technology to advance teaching and learning for positive student outcomes, and a vaping prevention guide, among other information. To learn more, take a moment to read the December IUSD Insights.
Thank you and best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season. We hope you will find many moments of joy and rejuvenation with family and friends.
Sincerely,
Terry L. Walker
