For the third consecutive year, University High School’s Ocean Science Bowl team won the regional competition held at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory! The team went undefeated throughout the day, demonstrating their incredible knowledge, teamwork and dedication.
Eight teams from Los Angeles and Orange counties competed in the fast-paced event, which covers topics like oceanography, marine biology, chemistry, policy and laws and maritime history. With this victory, the Uni team earned a spot in the national competition, which will take place virtually at the end of May.
The winning team comprises:
- Angelina Yan, grade 11 (Team Captain)
- Matthew Feng, grade 11
- Nethra Iyer, grade 11
- Avery Hexun, grade 10
- Joanne Chen, grade 9
The team has spent months preparing by exploring complex topics, refining strategies and sharpening collaboration skills.
“This victory is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our students,” said Chair of Uni’s Science Department and Coach David Knight. “Week after week, they committed themselves to study, practice and strengthen their teamwork. I am very proud of their continued success and love how much fun they have competing and learning these subjects.”
Join us in congratulating our students on this outstanding achievement!
