IUSD schools, in partnership with Team Kids, the Irvine Unified Council PTA and Jumpstart, will join a national effort to set a new world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day as part of “Read for the Record” on Thursday, Oct. 7.

The Irvine Unified PTA Council is inviting IUSD students of all ages to participate in its annual “Reflections” art contest.

IUSD's newest and “greenest” campus will host an open house and facilities tour on Monday, Sept. 27, as district officials and representatives from the local chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council team up to share strategies for conservation, sustainability and environmental education.

This week, the state released its Academic Performance Index scores for 2010, and IUSD quietly earned the top spot among California’s larger school systems.

The California Department of Education has released the latest results of its annual Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program, and, once again, students in the Irvine Unified School District continue to post impressive stats in core subjects.

The Irvine Unified School District’s four year-round campuses are gearing up to welcome students back for the first day of the 2010-11 school year.

Talk about tough acts to follow. In June, Principal Robin Beacham of Bonita Canyon Elementary School retired after 26 remarkable years in IUSD. Ken Horner similarly put the final touches on a stellar career as principal of Alderwood Basics Plus.

A couple hours before the Los Angeles Lakers were parading through the streets of downtown L.A., students from Deerfield Elementary School were on a march of their own through the City of Irvine, heading to the campus they’ll call home next year.

Once again, all schools in the Irvine Unified School District will be closed on Monday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 15, to accommodate districtwide furlough days.

A Brywood Elementary mom has been named Parent Volunteer of the Year by the Irvine Public Schools Foundation.
