Canyon View Elementary School will be the site of an Irvine Child Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 25. Hosted by the Joyful Child Foundation, the event will feature informational booths and demonstrations from a number of child safety organizations. We’re told there will also be fun stuff for kids, including face-painting and emergency vehicles on display. IUSD school board member Carolyn McInerney will be among the special guests, along with Irvine City Councilman Jeffrey Lalloway and former Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who co-authored the bill that put Megan's Law on the Internet. Other participants include Boys Town, The National Children’s Study at UC Irvine, The RAISE Foundation, Behavioral Consultants Network, Spectrum Infant and Toddlers Montessori, the Irvine Police Department and Farmers Insurance, which plans to offer family safety and identification kits to attendees. “As a longtime child advocate, I am so pleased by Irvine’s efforts to stay a step ahead and keep our children safe from harm,” McInerney said. “We all have to play our part, and it’s so important for families to take an extra step like that and get informed on what they and their children can do to stay out of danger.” Welcoming remarks are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Canyon View Elementary School is located at 12025 Yale Court in Irvine.
