Woodbury running club earns nomination from Governor's Council on Physical Fitness

A few months back, we were introduced to members of a running club at Woodbury Elementary School called the Mustang Milers, and they had a pretty lofty goal.

The club's more than 200 students in kindergarten through the sixth-grade challenged themselves to run (or walk) the distance of an entire marathon through a program called Kids Run the OC, culminating with a final dash just before April's OC Marathon. Well, this year’s squad has long since accomplished that mission – and their strides did not go unnoticed. The Mustang Milers, led by Woodbury teachers Julie Siff and Jennifer Lambert, recently learned they've been nominated for a prestigious Spotlight Award from the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical activity for Californians, particularly kids and young adults. Its Spotlight Awards program annually recognizes inspirational individuals, groups and events that positively impact fitness and health. While an awards committee will ultimately make recommendations to the council, the rest of us can publicly lobby for our favorites online.
