Services for Ashton Sweet to be held Monday at Chinese Baptist Church of Orange County
Ashton, 14, was gravely injured over the Memorial Day weekend after the car she was traveling in was struck by a suspected drunk driver at the intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Culver Drive. She remained on life support until Tuesday, allowing her family to make arrangements for organ donations. The popular teen attended Westwood Basics Plus and Sierra Vista Middle School before arriving at Northwood, where she was involved with cheer, track and a club that pairs its members with students who have special needs. Her passing has since cast waves of shock and sorrow over the Northwood campus, and mourners have continued to express their love for Ashton by leaving letters, flowers and pictures at the scene of the accident. Ashton’s mother told The Orange County Register that Monday’s memorial service will be open to the public. Guests are encouraged to wear white or green, one of Ashton's favorite colors, "as a celebration of life and renewal," Elizabeth Sweet told the newspaper. The Chinese Baptist Church of Central Orange County is located at 12012 Yale Court, near Canyon View Elementary School. (For directions, click here.) Those attending Ashton’s services may also park at Northwood High School.
