Dear IUSD Community,
This year marks IUSD’s 50th anniversary since residents voted to unify our school district in June 1972. At that time, we had six schools and more than 6,000 students. In the 50 years that have followed, we have grown to 43 schools and more than 36,000 students.
As we celebrate 50 years of educational excellence, we will recognize and honor the “US” at the center of IUSD, which has enabled our school district to provide the highest quality educational experience we can envision for generations of students. This collective “US” includes our visionary Board of Education and District leadership team, our dedicated teachers and support staff, our incredibly talented and engaged students, our committed parents and families, and passionate community partners and leaders.
Together, we have created one of the highest performing school districts in the nation that is student centered, committed to equity and driven by continuous improvement. We are honored to share this important milestone with our community and have created a 50th anniversary kick off video, which provides a snapshot of where we began five decades ago and expresses our deepest gratitude to those who have contributed to our successes.
Throughout 2022, we will share insights about how our district has adapted to meet the needs of current and future generations of students, while sharing stories about IUSD leaders, students, staff and others who have been an important part of our history. This information will be posted to our 50th anniversary webpage at iusd.org/50.
Additionally, today, we launched our 50th Anniversary Photo Contest, which is open to current and former IUSD students, staff and families, along with community members of all ages. The contest is open until Tuesday, May 23, 2022. We hope you will participate and help us visually capture IUSD’s vibrant history.
