IUSD recently hosted its annual 21st Century Career Conference at the UC Irvine Beckman Center, providing nearly 400 middle school students from the District’s 10 middle schools with a unique opportunity to explore career pathways in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Students participated in four 30-minute breakout sessions, choosing from 14 different panel options led by STEM professionals. These engaging sessions covered a wide range of topics, including zoology, quantum physics, pharmaceuticals and software development. Presenters shared insights into their professions, daily responsibilities and the educational pathways that can help students pursue careers in these fields.

The conference featured experts from organizations such as Irvine Ranch Water District, Edwards Lifesciences, Santa Ana Zoo, and University Lab Partners, offering students firsthand knowledge and inspiration.

"The IUSD 21st Century Career Conference is an opportunity for our middle school students to explore the vast possibilities within STEM fields and connect with professionals who can inspire curiosity, ignite passion and help them envision their own future pathways,” commented IUSD Director of STEM Bob Curley. “Hosting this event each year reflects IUSD’s commitment to providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success in high school, college and beyond."

The District would like to thank our UCI hosts, the presenters, the IUSD STEM team, our students, and our teacher and parent chaperones from each school, who all helped to make this student-centered event a success.
