For the last eight years, the Irvine Family Resource Center has been a vital community resource, assisting IUSD students and their families with counseling, parenting support and linkage to information and services. Then a drop in funding threatened the center's continuation at the end of last school year. Now the IFRC is back, and in a new location: The Creekside Education Center at 3387 Barranca Parkway in Irvine. “Thanks in part to a new grant from the Community Action Partnership, we have again been able to partner with the outstanding Families Forward agency to station two professional counselors at the IFRC,” says Program Coordinator Susan Holt. Beth Baker and Nicole Gyurik will again offer professional counseling and support to IUSD students and families experiencing mental health issues, parenting troubles, student behavior concerns and other challenges. Initial consultations are free, with ongoing counseling available at $50 per hour. Appointments are also available based on a sliding scale and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
