The Irvine Unified School District will celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the Class of 2020 in a variety of ways that also honors their personal sacrifices for the greater public good. After seeking guidance from a number of state and local agencies and out of concern for the safety of our students, staff and families, IUSD will hold virtual graduation ceremonies in June.
Highschools
When:
IUSD’s five comprehensive high schools (Irvine, Northwood, Portola, University and Woodbridge) will hold their virtual graduation ceremonies on June 4.
Creekside High School and San Joaquin (Blended Learning) will hold their ceremonies on June 5.
Celebrations:
While each school is finalizing its plans, the ceremonies will include:
- A recording of traditional commencement speeches and activities
- Student names read with photos
- Student performances
- Recorded messages
- Video and photo montages celebrating students and campus events and activities
In addition to making the virtual graduation presentations available for students to download, schools have also distributed Class of 2020 lawn signs/posters to each student.
More Details:
Schools will provide students and families with additional information about the time their ceremonies will air and how to download the ceremonies. Schools are communicating with students about caps/gowns and diplomas. For further questions or information, please contact your school directly.
Principals are also working with parents, students and staff to design plans for in-person opportunities for seniors to celebrate and connect in the future, when it is safe. These plans are in the beginning phases and will take shape in the coming weeks.
