In addition to announcing the 2022-23 Teachers of the Year, IUSD announced four Teachers of Promise. This annual honor goes to first- or second-year instructors, who go above and beyond, while demonstrating professional curiosity and an unbridled enthusiasm for teaching.
2022-2023 Teachers of Promise
Michael Stern – Third Grade, Canyon View Elementary
Michael is highly regarded and beloved by the Canyon View staff and community. Although he is in his first year of teaching, he has long ties with IUSD and was an instructional assistant for many years at Deerfield. He’s enthusiastic about teaching and deeply invested in his students and school community.
Cassie Ingram – Sixth Grade, Oak Creek Elementary
Cassie’s care for her students is her core value. She goes above and beyond outside of the day to support her students, create a positive classroom culture, and to create a safe and welcoming environment for students. She is innovative in her use of math road maps and video, making sure that students learn to their potential.
Makayla Peters – Education Specialist, Rancho San Joaquin Middle School
Makayla finds ways to positively connect with her students. Communication and relationships come naturally with students, families and staff. Makayla is highly involved in the Peer Assisted Leadership (PAL) program at Rancho that won a Irvine Public School Foundation grant to help students assimilate into the overall school environment.
Ally Hatter – Math, Woodbridge High School
Ally’s approach to learning is through relationships and building connections with students, families and staff. She’s innovative in instructional practices and presents as a highly skilled teacher in only her second year at Woodbridge.
This year’s four Teachers of Promise were recognized in front of their students and will be formally honored in April at the Excellence in Teaching Awards program.
Once again, congratulations to this year’s Teachers of Promise!
