There was lots of Good News Around the District from May 18-22!  IUSD celebrated our classified employees, recognized outstanding student and teacher achievements, and was wowed by digital performances, among many other great happenings!

Northwood High's Mickey Dickson has been named one of six Orange County Teacher of the Year Finalists by the OC Department of Education (OCDE). Dickson, who is a Science Teacher and Coach at Northwood, was also named IUSD’s High School Teacher of the Year in February. 
Out of four OC students, three IUSD students were selected for the honor of showcasing their scientific research and innovations at a virtual exhibition for this year’s Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
This year, the National History Day competition has gone virtual but that didn’t stop IUSD students from cleaning up at the state competition. A total of 11 history projects by IUSD students will advance to the virtual National History Day showdown June 14-18.
IUSD’s grab-and-go meal locations will be closed on Monday, May 25 for the Memorial Day holiday.  ​​​​​​IUSD families picking up meals on Friday, May 22 will receive meals for that day and for the Tuesday after Memorial Day.  The regular pick-up schedule will resume on Wednesday, May 27.  
May 18-22 is Classified School Employee Appreciation Week.  The IUSD Board of Education and Superintendent Terry Walker have recorded a special video message to share the District's deepest appreciation for our classified employees' dedication and professionalism.  

The Irvine Unified School District will celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the Class of 2020 in a variety of ways that also honors their personal sacrifices for the greater public good.

Last week there was a lot of Good News Around the District. Students were honored for their achievements, our schools made videos that really moved us, and teachers, staff and families continued to find ways to connect and engage, while prioritizing mental health, kindness and gratitude.
As part of Earth Day last month, IUSD’s Sustainability team held a poster contest asking students to create an original work of art on a poster demonstrating the theme of “Climate Action” or actions that fight climate change. Students showcased the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling through their artistic educational posters.
