The IUSD Board of Education is expected to vote tonight on a number of budget reductions and adjustments to bridge a projected deficit of more than $20 million for the 2010-11 school year.

With a vote on budget reductions two weeks away, the IUSD Board of Education resumed its dialogue over the state fiscal crisis and its impact on our schools at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The Board of Education's scheduled vote on proposed budget reductions for 2010-11 has been postponed until Tuesday, March 16.

School board members, district staff and the community on Tuesday took part in the latest discussion related to the state budget crisis and its impact on IUSD, with much of the conversation centering on elementary art, music and science programs.

Just a reminder that Monday, Feb. 15, is a federal holiday in honor of President Washington's Birthday, and that means all Irvine Unified School District campuses and offices will be closed. We’ll see you back at school on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The state budget crisis continues to take its toll on public education, creating a $23.8 million shortfall for the Irvine Unified School District alone.

Though Governor Schwarzenegger recently vowed to protect education from further reductions, his initial budget proposal for 2010-11 poses enormous challenges for school districts, most of which have already been decimated by cuts.
