Trustee Area Boundary Adjustment Process

In 2018, after an extensive process, the IUSD Board of Education unanimously voted to transition to a By-Trustee Area election method; whereby candidates for the Board must reside within a specific geographic subarea of the District called a "trustee area" and candidates are elected only by the voters of that trustee area.

Education Code section 5019.5 requires school districts that elect board members by trustee area to adjust the trustee area boundaries following each decennial federal census using population figures validated by the Population Research Unit of the Department of Finance, if the trustee area populations have adjusted by 10 percent or more.

The District has reviewed the adopted trustee area plan and determined that adjustment of the trustee area boundaries is required based on the results of the 2020 Census.  To view the draft maps, which were presented for consideration by the community and Board of Education during the January 18 Board Meeting, click here.  When viewing the draft maps, select the image to get a PDF of the image and associated demographics.

The Board will continue this process during the Feb. 15 Board Meeting.  Tune into Cox Channel 39 or click here to live stream the meeting.  The agenda item for this meeting and previous Board Meeting videos can be accessed here.

Please note, this process has no effect on school district or student attendance boundaries.
