If you’ve traveled in the area of Jeffrey and Trabuco roads within the past couple years, you’ve probably seen a pretty sharp-looking middle school taking shape.

That would be Jeffrey Trail Middle School, and it’s set to open its doors in September 2013. In the meantime, Principal Scott Bowman and his team are busy hiring staff, developing programs and accepting the inaugural class of students.

Naturally, the school will have an assigned attendance boundary, and eighth-graders from nearby Sierra Vista Middle School will be invited to enroll as well. But here’s a twist: Principal Bowman tells us that current IUSD sixth- and seventh-graders will also have an opportunity to apply for enrollment. “We decided to open the enrollment to get a viable population so we have a true middle school experience,” he said. Interested families can learn more by attending one of two upcoming informational meetings, which will take place Dec. 13 and Jan. 16. Both sessions will be held on the Jeffrey Trail Middle School campus from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., allowing participants to meet the staff, ask questions and tour the site. Jeffrey Trail is located at 155 Visions in Irvine. For more information, contact Principal Bowman at scottbowman@iusd.org or 949-936-6505.
