IUSD’s pursuit of continuous improvement can be traced back four decades to its first superintendent, Stan Corey, who proclaimed in a set of founding principles that “Organizations must strive for momentum, not stability.” That philosophy is also reflected in another document that’s been revised and rewritten over the years to serve as a roadmap for progress – a document known as IUSD’s “Strategic Initiatives.” You may not have heard of the latter text, but it's served as a Constitution of sorts. It spells out the district's core values, essential beliefs and strategies for moving forward – and it’s now in the process of being updated for 2012 and beyond. Staff members have edited and augmented some areas, adding language related to technology, essential learning capacities, professional development and strategic alliances. (They've also spruced up the design.) And now the district is inviting staff, parents, students and members of the community to weigh in. Here’s a brief video that explains the process, featuring Superintendent Terry Walker. At eight pages, this document is pretty concise, and you can access the latest draft by clicking here. But we recommend checking out this newly created web page, which features a link to the Strategic Initiatives and an online input form for your feedback.
