Our left-brain friends in the district have reminded us that there are a couple of major science events coming up.
IUSD students to showcase latest ‘Astounding Inventions’ on Jan. 29
For starters, the 24th annual Astounding Inventions contest, presented by Greenberg Traurig LLP and the Irvine Valley College Foundation, will be held Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Irvine Valley College’s Hart Gymnasium. Established to promote student interest in math and science, Astounding Inventions annually showcases and awards the creative inventions of Irvine and Tustin students in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The public is invited to come check out these inventions for free, and there will be some pretty cool science demonstrations and stage shows as well. We’re told a real human brain will be on display again this year, along with a “Make-A-Quake” earthquake exhibit, water rockets and a solar power demonstration. For finalists selected to enter the contest, information and an event schedule will be sent home this month. For more information, check out this flier. While we're marking our calendars, the 30th Annual District Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at University High School. Science fair finalists will be sent information in February.
