On Saturday, February 23 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., the Irvine Unified School District will host a free electronics recycling event at the District Office, located at 5050 Barranca Parkway in Irvine.
IUSD’s Green Team staff has teamed up with All Green to collect e-waste, which is anything with a plug that is unused, obsolete or non-working. All Green accepts the following:
- Smart phones
- Miscellaneous electronic equipment (includes cables and wires, and anything with a plug and circuit board)
Items not accepted include:
- Light bulbs
- Household hazardous waste
- Kitchen appliances
E-waste contains heavy metals such as lead, mercury, chromium, cadmium and zinc that contaminate our soil and water, and is responsible for 70 percent of all heavy metals found in landfills today. An Environmental Protection Agency report says E-waste in landfills will continue to grow. Help do your part to protect our environment by safely recycling your old electronics at this free public event.
Please be sure to erase personal information or sensitive data from your devices before recycling them. Items that cannot be reused will be scraped and used for parts. Reusable items may be donated or sold to low-income households.
Certified data destruction of devices is available from All Green and certifications will be sent via email. Please inquire with All Green employees at the time of recycling.
