Irvine High School’s jazz bands proved once again that they are among the best in the west at the 56th annual Reno Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Competing against musicians from California, Nevada, Idaho and Washington, the Jazz I ensemble placed third out of 30 schools in the AA Band division, while Jazz II took first place in the Apprentice II Band division. The school’s Combo 1 band, made up of Geneva Daniels, Daniel Woo and Nic Mao, placed fifth in the AAA Combo category.
Divisions are determined by school size and divided from smallest to largest—C, B, A, AA, AAA, AAAA; the Apprentice divisions are novice groups from the same school.
Irvine High’s jazz teams were among more than 300 choirs, bands and combos from 170 schools, colleges and universities at the Reno Jazz Festival, which is recognized as one of the best events of its kind in the world. Congratulations to Irvine High’s jazz musicians for another job well done.
