IPD Support Dog Program

IPD Support Dogs

The newest members of the Irvine Police Department recently joined Irvine Unified School District Board of Education Members, Superintendent Walker and Student Board Members for a meet and greet.

IPD has launched a support dog program and is working with IUSD to bring trained support (therapy) dogs to District schools as an added layer of social-emotional support for students when needed.  Black Labs Ronnie and Jacks have received specialized training for their role as support dogs, which is their only purpose.  Ronnie is assigned to Melissa Porter, the SRO at Portola High School and Jacks is assigned to Sergeant Karie Davies, who is in the Public Information Office for IPD.

When on IUSD campuses they will be under the care and command of their handlers.  Schools will keep their staff, students and families informed about visits.

We appreciate our partnership with IPD to support students and look forward to seeing these friendly faces on IUSD campuses.
