County Committee Approves District Trustee Areas

By trustee area voting process to be in place for November Elections

As communicated over the last several months, the IUSD Board of Education engaged in an extensive process to consider transitioning to a by-trustee area method of electing members of the IUSD Board of Education. During the May 29 Board Meeting, after hearing a staff presentation, conducting two public hearings and reviewing multiple proposed trustee area maps, the Board unanimously voted to transition from the current at-large election method to a by-trustee area election method and unanimously selected a map that best meets the approved criteria for selecting trustee areas.

On June 20 at 6 p.m., the County Committee on School District Organization held a public hearing, at IUSD’s Administration Office, to review the process undertaken by IUSD and the selected trustee area map. At the hearing, the County Committee approved the by-trustee area election method and the selected map, which will be in place for the November 2018 election. The Orange County Registrars Office has been notified of the District’s transition to a By-Trustee area election system, which will be reflective for the July-August 2018 nomination period; where trustee areas 2 and 4 will be up for election.

After hearing IUSD’s presentation during the June 20 public hearing, the County praised IUSD for conducting a thorough process, including communications and public outreach, and unanimously approved the Purple Map IV.
