Communications

Welcome to the Communications webpage for the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD). The Public Information Office plays an important role in supporting IUSD's promise to provide the highest quality educational experience we can envision for all of our more than 38,000 students across 45 schools. We are dedicated to fostering effective communications, actively seeking and valuing feedback, and engaging students, staff, and families to meet the needs of our diverse community.

Communication Resources

School and District Communications

IUSD uses ParentSquare as our District and school communications platform.  It allows us to send emails, text messages, phone calls, and alerts to parents and guardians.  The system uses contact information from the Parent Portal, so please be sure your contact information is up to date so you do not miss important communications and information from the District and your child’s school.

Quick Tips:

  • Click here for more information about updating student, parent or guardian contact information in the Parent Portal.
  • Click here to learn how to set your language preference in Parent Portal.
  • For general information related to Parent Portal, including an FAQ, visit our Parent Portal reference guide.

Emergency Communications and Alerts

In the event of an emergency, the District and/or your school will send alerts, updates, and information through ParentSquare.  This may include emails, text messages, and voicemails.

IUSD is committed to ensuring that our diverse community can easily access the information and resources available on all of our websites.  This includes providing communications in preferred languages and in formats that accommodate individual's abilities to support increased parent and family engagement.

The UserWay widget, found on all IUSD and school websites, offers a range of features designed to enhance web accessibility, including:

  • Site Translation: Although Google Translate already exists on IUSD websites, it is now integrated into the widget to streamline access to the translation feature.  The translate feature enables users to access content in all languages supported by Google Translate, and the accessibility widget will also function in each translated language.
  • Screen Reader Compatibility: Ensures all content is accessible to blind or visually impaired users, who utilize screen readers.
  • Text-to-Voice: This service supports blind or visually impaired users or those who may need reading assistance.
  • Keyboard Navigation: This enables users to navigate the site using keyboard shortcuts, beneficial for those with motor impairments.
  • Color Contrast Adjustments: Allows users to modify color contrast settings for better visibility.
  • Text Sizing Options: Provides options to increase or decrease text size, aiding those with visual impairments.
  • Dyslexia-Friendly Font: Offers a font option designed to improve readability for users with dyslexia.
  • Pause Animations: Gives users the ability to pause any animations that could be distracting or cause discomfort.
  • Highlight Links: Highlights links to make them more noticeable for easier navigation.
