Sierra Vista Middle School recently held its first ever Jog/Walk event to promote health and fitness. More than 400 students took part on Oct. 29 by jogging or walking a one-mile course, and hundreds more turned out to watch, according to Sierra Vista P.E. teacher Neal Caldwell. Each participant received a special Charger Card – we’re told this gets you to the front of the lunch line – as well as a Teacher Advisement point, which are accumulated for classroom incentives. “The goal of the Jog/Walk was to encourage all students to take charge of their health and show their fellow classmates they are serious about fitness,” Caldwell said. The overall winner was Sam Cachola, who earned himself a gift certificate for running shoes.
