IUSD students buck national trend with big gains on the SAT college entrance exam

As noted this week in USA Today and Education Week, SAT scores in 2010 remained relatively flat across the country when compared with last year’s rates. But that trend does not apply to IUSD, says Irene Brady, the district’s coordinator of assessment and evaluation. “We have improved over time, but most dramatically in the last two years,” Brady told IUSD NewsFlash. “Additionally, it seems the largest increase was seen in writing.” Indeed, district writing scores on the famed college entrance exam jumped a whopping 24 points since 2006, while math and critical reading scores spiked by 17 points and 14 points, respectively. Here’s a look at how IUSD students performed on all three portions of the test, along with averages from California and elsewhere across the country:
