Last week, Oct. 23-27, IUSD schools celebrated Red Ribbon Week, a week in which awareness is raised around drug prevention and making healthy choices. This year’s theme in Irvine was “Your Future is Key, Who Will You Be?”
Schools were decorated, students wore red, they talked about their futures, they had dinner with their families, and their principals served milkshakes at Ruby's Diner to raise money and awareness. In addition, students collected pennies all week long to raise funds to continue prevention efforts throughout the year. The Irvine Prevention Coalition, IUSD and the City of Irvine helped coordinate the weeklong celebration, which culminated last Friday with the collection of Pennies for Prevention. Nearly 10,000 pounds of pennies were collected, which means $10,000 was raised for prevention efforts.
We are very proud of our community for coming together to help keep our kids healthy!
