IUSD students who have excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field were honored this week at the 38th annual Irvine Senior Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet, sponsored by Irvine Valley College and hosted by The Exchange Club of Irvine. The June 6 banquet, held at IVC’s Performing Arts Center, recognized a total of 32 seniors – that's four boys and four girls from each of IUSD’s comprehensive high schools – who distinguished themselves with their athleticism and academic skills. The Orange County Register’s Tim Burt covered the banquet. You can read his column, which has information about all of the winners, by clicking here. The Exchange Club of Irvine first began spotlighting Irvine’s exceptional student-athletes back in 1974. Since then, nearly 900 young men and women have been honored, with most pursuing professions outside of athletics. (Notable exceptions include Tim Wallach, Adam Keefe, Bob Hamelin and the Oden sisters – Kim, Elaina and Beverly.)
