Irvine schools are blue about the budget

The Irvine Unified Council PTA and a number of state organizations are encouraging parents, staff and community members to wear blue on Thursday, March 4, to show that we are “blue about the budget.” Seems red could have also been a consideration - as in red ink - or perhaps green for the optimists out there. Either way, this is another chance to raise awareness of the fact that California’s schools have been hit with $17 billion in reductions over the last two years, and the governor is proposing another $2.5 billion worth of cuts for 2010-11. Statewide, a number of groups led by the Education Coalition will be organizing events to call attention to the devastating impacts. So, if you're like us and you're feeling a little blue about the budget, please show your support locally by donning some blue tomorrow.
