Christine Amoroso, who has served as principal at Brywood Elementary School for seven years, has been selected as the next principal of University Park Elementary School, IUSD Superintendent Terry Walker announced Friday.

Pending approval by the Board of Education, her new assignment will start in July.

“Christine is an experienced educator who has provided exceptional and consistent leadership at an IUSD school that is similar in culture and vision to U.P.,” Walker said. “Innovative, knowledgeable, energetic and collaborative, she is held in high regard by the staff and community at Brywood, as well as her principal colleagues throughout this district. We are pleased that she has decided to pursue new opportunities for greatness with the U.P. community.”

After working in the private sector for 13 years, Amoroso followed her dream of becoming a teacher in 1997 and was first hired by the Ocean View School District, where she taught second and third grade for six years. In 2003, she was named assistant principal of McGaugh Elementary School in the Los Alamitos Unified School District, serving as the site administrator overseeing all special education programs. In 2006, she joined IUSD as Brywood’s principal.

A resident of Huntington Beach, Amoroso earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and her administrative credential from Cal State Long Beach in 2001. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Amoroso will succeed Diane McClelland, who announced last month that she would step down as U.P.’s principal. District officials said they will now begin seeking input from the Brywood staff and community as part of the process for selecting that school's next leader. Stay tuned for more on that front.
