IUSD is proud to highlight the success of three teams that have clinched CIF championships: Northwood High School Flag Football, Portola High School Football and Portola High School Girls Golf. We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of these student-athletes, who have shown exceptional skill, dedication and teamwork in their respective sports.
Northwood High School Flag Football: Champions in a New Era
As one of the newest sports in the CIF competition, Northwood High School Flag Football has set a high bar, capturing the championship. The Timberwolves played with heart and passion as they beat Trabuco Hills High School 31-17 in the inaugural Division 2 championship game. Throughout the game, The Timberwolves’ defense remained stout, helping them to take home the victory title.
Portola High School Football: A Historic Victory
Portola High School Football made history this season with a phenomenal run that claimed their first-ever CIF championship. The Bulldogs showcased their grit and determination throughout the season, overcoming the tough and experienced El Rancho High School. Their victory is a testament to their hard work and the leadership of their coaching staff.
“This victory is a testament to the hard work, heart and resilience of every single player on this team. It’s because of the dedication and fight this team had elevated us over a tough and experienced school like El Rancho,” stated Head Coach Peter Abe. “I’m proud of our players for staying focused and playing for each other.”
Portola Girls Golf: Swinging to the Top
Continuing their legacy of excellence, the Portola Girls Golf team claimed the CIF Division 2 title. The Bulldogs shot a 380 to outdistance St. Margaret High School by 10 strokes for the title. Senior Zoe Wynn posted a 3-under-par 69 to help Portola secure its second-section crown in three seasons. The team demonstrated incredible consistency on the course, led by standout performances from both seasoned players and emerging talent.
These championship victories underscore the dedication of all IUSD’s student-athletes and coaches, whose dedication and planning were instrumental in each team's success.
"We are incredibly proud of our CIF champions and all our student-athletes who represent IUSD with integrity and excellence," shared Superintendent Terry Walker. "Their hard work on and off the field inspires us all."
Congratulations to Northwood High School Flag Football, Portola High School Football and Portola High School Girls Golf for their remarkable accomplishments.
