Biology and robotics are among the science careers explored at middle school conference

Hundreds of IUSD middle school students explored potential science careers during a conference that was held at UCI this week. Here's a news release and a photo courtesy of Jacqueline Carr, who attends Venado Middle School.

IRVINE -  Students from all middle schools in Irvine attended the 19th Annual Middle School Science Career Options Conference at UCI on Tuesday.  The nearly 400 students attended four sessions which they picked from a variety of topics ranging from biology, dentistry, and engineering, to stem cell research, physics, and robotics. 

The classes were taught by UCI professors, as well as 18 professionals in the community who volunteered their time, including speakers from Hughes Aircraft, Broadcom, Orange County Crime Lab, and Children's Hospital of Orange.

The conference was organized by Mark Sontag, IUSD Curriculum Coordinator.
