We interrupt your regularly scheduled winter recess to share a little good news. Two weeks after releasing its middle school rankings, The Orange County Register offered its take on the O.C.'s best high schools, and all four of IUSD's comprehensive campuses earned recognition. Northwood High led the way locally at No. 4 on the Register's list, followed by University High at No. 6. Irvine and Woodbridge high schools were No. 11 and No. 13, respectively. All earned silver- or bronze-medal status. As we've reported in the past, a number of publications use all sorts of formulas to rank schools, and their results generally differ. As recently as June, University was No. 8 on Newsweek magazine's list of “America’s Best High Schools.” The Register says it crunched numbers relating to academics, college and career preparation, and school environment.
