Purpose Statement for IUSD Health Advisory Committee
The California State Department of Education's Guidelines for Family Life/Sex Education (1987) states that "all [family life/sex education] curriculum and materials to be used should be studied by a community advisory committee..." (p.vi) and "...the recommendations of the committee eventually must be approved formally by the board." (p.4).
In keeping with these Guidelines, the IUSD Board of Education has established the Board appointed Health Advisory Committee (HAC). The HAC consists of five members, each appointed by each of the elected Board of Education members. The HAC is advisory to the IUSD Board of Education.
The charge of the HAC is to review sensitive topic materials and make recommendations to the Board of Education regarding their approval for use.
