IUSD Elementary Schools Celebrate Reading on National Read Across America Day

Read Across America Day

IUSD Elementary Schools kicked off the month of March with a celebration of literacy through their participation in Read Across America Day. The annual event, established by the National Education Association, is a dedicated literacy campaign that aims to inspire and motivate students to become successful readers.

Each year, District schools engage in fun and creative activities to foster a love of reading. This includes games, literacy scavenger hunts, school-based events and special guests, who read their favorite children’s books to celebrate this important day.

One of the highlights of the day was the presence of special guest readers which included Board Members Cyril Yu, Katie McEwen, Jeff Kim and Lauren Brooks, along with Superintendent Terry Walker and Director of Literacy Jackie Guy.

"Instilling a love for reading at an early age helps to lay the foundation for lifelong learning and success," said Director of Literacy Jackie Guy. "Read Across America Day is a reminder of the ongoing journey we must take to nurture the minds and imaginations of our students."
