The City of Irvine is hosting a unique educational opportunity -- one that happens to align nicely with IUSD's recent solar initiative.

The Board of Education on Tuesday discussed how best to use $5.8 million in available state funding for the implementation of the California Common Core instructional standards.

A few days before campuses on the traditional calendar re-opened for the 2013-14 school year, IUSD quietly hit a significant milestone: Enrollment climbed past 30,000 students.

IUSD students continue to outpace their county and state counterparts on standards tests, according to the latest batch of scores released this month by the California Department of Education.

Come Monday, July 29, a new school year will begin for Plaza Vista School, Vista Verde School, Westpark Elementary and Woodbury Elementary.

Last month, more than 40 of Irvine’s brightest teaching stars were honored during the 27th annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Dinner at the Irvine Marriott.

Dozens of district administrators and all five school board members spent some time on Friday shadowing custodians, electricians, painters, clerks and other classified workers during IUSD’s sixth annual Appreciating Classified Employees Day. (Or ACE Day for short.)
