IUSD has a close partnership with IPD, which works collaboratively with the District on a daily basis related to all aspects of school safety, including threat assessments, student and staff trainings, and site-specific response planning.
IPD also provides 12 full-time School Resource Officers assigned to IUSD schools, including a School Resource Officer at every high school; a Middle School Resource Officer, who oversees the Student Empowerment at Middle School program; and D.A.R.E. Officers, who frequently visit our elementary schools. School Resource Officers not only work to help provide campus safety but they also serve as a resource for students, parents and school administrators to create a positive link between the community and IPD.
IUSD is the only school district in Orange County to have a D.A.R.E. program, giving our students the opportunity to positively connect with police officers, beginning at a young age.

As law enforcement experts, IPD works with the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, the FBI, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center and more on a broad range of issues, including but not limited to school safety and violent intruders. IPD infuses this expertise in annual staff and student trainings.
