Lisa Livernois would have surely appreciated the site -- hundreds of Meadow Park Elementary students, staff and families gathered together, wearing the gear and color of her favorite team, the Los Angeles Angels.
On Friday, a sea of red blanketed the school's dampened blacktop as scores of children took part in a morning tribute to Principal Livernois, who
died on Nov. 17. Members of her family were also on hand to accept cards, notes and letters expressing love for the cherished educator, mentor and friend.
The Angels organization sent a letter of its own, eloquently expressing condolences for the loss. The team also made a special jersey to honor Livernois and supplied the caps worn by students.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday. Wrapping up Friday's ceremony, Meadow Park staff members sang a song about Lisa, fittingly to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." It included these lyrics:
"She was kind, supportive and thoughtful, All our hearts she has won. We will miss her so But we know That her heart lives on."
