Message from IUSD Health Services:

The state recently announced the end of California’s COVID-19 state of emergency.  As a result, the California Department of Public Health and the Orange County Health Care Agency have updated public health orders.

Per updated state guidelines, the isolation time for individuals recovering from COVID-19 has been reduced from ten days to five. Beginning today, March 13, 2023, individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 should continue to self-isolate and stay home for five days, and may leave isolation on the sixth day if they are feeling well, symptoms are improving, and they are fever-free for 24 hours.

The state recommends wearing a mask for ten days from the point of infection but this can be shortened after two consecutive negative tests taken at least one day apart.  Additionally, students and staff are strongly encouraged to test for COVID-19 and wear a mask when there are new or unexplained symptoms of illness.

Vaccinations remain an important tool in preventing serious illnesses.  California health officials strongly recommend that all eligible individuals get vaccinated against COVID-19 and remain up to date. Please note, there is no vaccine mandate for students or staff.

Since the summer of 2020, the State’s Department of Public Health has regularly updated its guidance for PK-12 schools based on statewide trends and the latest recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We continue to monitor and follow these guidelines.
