The Irvine Unified School District has scheduled an 11-hour power outage at the District Office on Saturday that will temporarily impact most of its technology services, including online grades through the Parent Portal and email access for staff.

Set to last from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m., the intentional blackout will enable IUSD to upgrade equipment and link the district’s data center to a backup generator, ensuring that technology services will continue to be available in the event of an emergency. While the power is off, there will be no lights, electricity or working phone lines at the District Office, and IUSD-hosted services including the website, district email and voicemail will be unavailable. In addition, parents and students will not be able to access the Parent Portal until after 5 p.m. “This planned outage will allow us to make important upgrades that could prove critical in the event of an emergency,” said Brianne Meyer, IUSD’s chief technology officer. “At the same time, we’ll be working as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimize any inconveniences.” The District Office is located at 5050 Barranca Parkway in Irvine.
