IUSD at 40: It's a bird, it's a plane ... it's Greentree Elementary School

So what’s happening here, and why are staff members decked out in Superman T-shirts?

Well, we aren’t exactly sure. But we can tell you that Greentree Elementary School opened in 1975, and this photo was shared by the Irvine Historical Society -- and likely snapped by an Irvine World News photographer. (Also, we know that “Superman” the movie hit theaters in 1978, though we’re not certain that’s relevant.)
