Established by the National Education Association, Read Across America is an annual literacy campaign that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Guest readers in IUSD included Board of Education members, city officials and district staff.
Over at Bonita Canyon Elementary School, new Principal Bob Curley continued a B.C. tradition by dressing up as “The Cat in the Hat” for a live performance of the legendary children’s book. We're told instructional assistants Kristie Hickok and Geri Aston capably filled out the supporting roles of Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Bonita Canyon students also made their own Dr. Seuss hats for the occasion and took part in a library-sponsored “Cat in the Hat” poster contest, according to Deborah Sharpnack, administrative assistant to the principal.
