Irvine High School students and staff were briefly evacuated to nearby Heritage Park on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 8 after a gas line was accidentally breached on campus. No students or staff were injured as a result of the breach, which occurred at about 8:50 a.m. during construction work on a new classroom building. The Orange County Fire Authority and The Southern California Gas Company were notified immediately, and the line was capped about an hour later. Fire officials performed a thorough inspection before giving the all-clear to return to campus.
